Nothing says it’s time for backyard bonfires like crisp air, falling leaves, and buckets of Halloween candy overflowing from the pantry. Create an understated and memorable evening for the adults with our simple plan.

We love to decorate with layers and texture, and that goes for the outdoors as well. Start with Adirondack chairs or bales of hay for rustic seating around the fire pit as your base. Next, add blankets like any of the gorgeous choices from the Tartan Blanket Company, for form and function. For additional light in areas where you’ll display food and drink, we are loving the flexibility and functionality that cordless Zafferano LED lamps bring to literally any space and can’t wait to offer them later this month.

Moving on to food and drink, place bottles of crisp white wine and your favorite ales in a stunning container like our oversized rattan ice tub that exudes “relaxed luxury.” Pre-mix hot toddies using this recipe from Bon Appetit and keep warm in a year round staple - our rattan coffee carafe.

For a creative s’mores bar, pre-skewer marshmallows and line them neatly on a platter like our large pewter tray and substitute plain chocolate with the variety of flavors your leftover mini Halloween candy can bring. Pile them high in our best-selling pewter revere bowls that will be back in just a few more days! Next, prepare your favorite chili recipe and cornbread and serve in coffee mugs. We especially love them in tin mugs to add to the rustic, nostalgic feel a bonfire can evoke. One of our favorite entertaining shortcuts is to layer paper plates on our rattan chargers to hold all of your food without sacrificing ease of clean up or style.

Finally, allow yourself to be completely present with your guests by downloading a printable sign from Etsy (like this one from Mars & Venus) ahead of time, frame it, and place it on the front porch so new arrivals can easily make their way to the backyard.

Once you’re set up, be sure to get cozy in your comfiest jeans and one of Jenni Kayne’s famous Cashmere Fisherman Sweater, pour yourself a toddy, and get ready for the great stories ‘round the fire to begin.

Cheers!
