How It's Made:

Rattan

How our rattan is made

Rattan is a naturally growing vine like species that is native to tropical regions of Australia, Asia, and Africa. For production use, the skin is peeled away and utilized for weaving purposes. Rattan was first discovered buried with pharaohs in ancient Egypt, and was originally used for basket weaving. Later adopted by the Romans, the material and its woven style spread across their empire. The rise of trade with Asia brought rattan to the West, and soon spread across from India to the West Indies, and on to England.

Our rattan supplier has been working with Burmese artisans for almost 25 years. They have developed decade-long relationships and work cooperatively with artisans to ensure the highest standards and fairest practices. All of our rattan products are hand-woven with a tight weave, durable construction, and exquisite and impeccable quality.
