Half Past Seven Values: Recycled Glass

Half Past Seven Values: Recycled Glass

Posted by Margaret Dillard on

Half Past Seven is proud to work with artisans who utilize environmentally-friendly practices. Many of our glass pieces are made from recycled glass, including all of our glass vases. In honor of Earth Week, we wanted to learn more about recycled glass, its impact on the environment, and why it is important.

Utilizing recycled glass to produce new glass products takes 40% less energy than producing it from new materials. This is energy-saving because crushed glass melts at a lower temperature than the raw materials typically used. Glass products made from recycled glass reduce related air pollution by 20% and related water pollution by 50%. While it’s obvious, it is also important to note that creating new glass pieces from recycled glass reduces the amount of glass that ends up in landfills.
